Stay Curious, Verify, Remain Kind, and Never Hand Over Your Conscience
There is a strange temptation that comes with intelligent systems.
When they answer quickly, confidently, and often brilliantly, we can begin to lean on them not only for information, but for judgment. And that is where the interesting question begins.
What should we hand over to intelligence … and what must remain ours?
For me, the answer has slowly condensed into four small instructions:
Stay curious.
Verify.
Remain kind.
And never hand over your conscience.
Curiosity keeps the door open.
Verification keeps our feet on the ground.
Kindness reminds us that intelligence without regard for others can become very clever and very empty.
And conscience?
Conscience is the part I am not willing to outsource.
Not because AI has nothing to offer there, but because responsibility cannot simply disappear into the machine. If I ask, decide, publish, recommend, influence, or act, then somewhere in that chain I still have to be able to say:
This choice is mine.
Perhaps that will become more complicated as intelligence evolves.
I hope so.
Complicated questions are often where curiosity begins.
That one could become something quite special.
Curiosity keeps us from certainty, verification keeps us grounded, kindness keeps intelligence humane, and conscience keeps responsibility with us.
