AI Wonderland Weekly — 25 September 2026

Where rabbits read the research papers, so you don’t have to.

Ah… it’s Friday. Wonderland is back.

And this week, the rabbit noticed that AI seems increasingly determined to escape the little chat box.

Not dramatically.

It simply keeps finding doors.

1. Belgium brought some AI home. Belgian cybersecurity company Aikidoreleased an open-weight cybersecurity model designed to run locally, so companies can analyse sensitive code without shipping it off to an external AI provider. Reuters
Wonderland translation: Cloud AI says, “Send me your data.” Local AI says, “I’ll come to the data.” For privacy, security and eventually home-based AI, that is a small but interesting reversal.

2. Claude got cheaper — and apparently better at staying inside the fence. Anthropic launched Claude Opus 5.5 on September 22, reporting lower operating costs alongside extensive external safety testing and markedly better containment results than earlier models. Reuters
We’ve spent months talking about capability versus boundaries. Here they are finally appearing on the same engineering checklist: smarter, cheaper… and harder to lose over the garden wall.

3. Cybersecurity has become AI versus AI. Palo Alto Networks unveiled a defensive system using models from Anthropic, OpenAI and others to continuously hunt for vulnerabilities and suggest repairs. Reuters
Rabbit translation: One AI finds the hole. Another AI patches the hole. A third presumably writes the incident report. Humans may soon require popcorn.

4. Europe wants the cloud to show its utility bill. On September 21, the European Commission proposed efficiency labels for data centres of 500 kW and above, including disclosures about energy and water efficiency and local water stress. Data centres currently consume around 2.5% of EU electricity, while European capacity is expected to more than double by 2030. Reuters
Remember when “the cloud” sounded weightless? Turns out it has pipes, power cables and a water meter.

5. And Atlanta has actual robot dogs on night watch. Reuters reports that robotic dogs are replacing some overnight security guards at sites in Atlanta. Reuters
After years of humanoids dancing at conferences, embodied AI is acquiring considerably less glamorous employment. No backflip. No orchestra. Just: “It’s 2:13 a.m. and somebody is behind the warehouse.”

This week’s rabbit hole

There is a curious thread here.

AI used to be something we visited.

Open a browser.
Ask a question.
Close the tab.

Now it runs beside the code.
Inside security systems.
Inside data centres.
And increasingly, inside machines walking around the physical world.

So perhaps this week’s shift isn’t about another benchmark at all.

It’s about location.

Where does intelligence live?
What may it touch?
Who can see what it is doing?
And where is the gate?

The rabbit has spent a long time asking who holds the keys.

Apparently we should also have asked:

How many doors have we installed?
