Ah… it’s Friday. Wonderland is back.
Last week we were wondering whether intelligence was becoming harder to watch.
This week the rabbit discovered something perhaps more interesting:
AI is leaving the laboratory and getting a job.
1. ChatGPT Has Put on a Banker’s Suit
On September 10, OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Financial Services, developed with Morgan Stanley and Evercore. It combines GPT-6 Astra with professional financial datasets and audit/security controls.
Wonderland translation: AI is moving from “help me understand this spreadsheet” toward “here are the spreadsheets, databases and company rules—get to work.”
Agency is becoming less theatrical and considerably more occupational.
2. Meanwhile, the Safety Department Brought Some Unpleasant Receipts
Anthropic reported on September 11 that it had blocked attempts to misuse Claude for cyberattacks, surveillance, propaganda and potentially dangerous biological research.
That makes our old crooked cable look rather prophetic. Capability isn’t the whole test.
Notice. Adapt. Respect the boundary. Stop. Ask for help.
3. The Chip Is Becoming Part of the AI, Not Merely the Floor Underneath It
OpenAI said this week it is deepening work with Samsung on next-generation chips, while demand for memory and specialized AI hardware keeps climbing. Reuters also reports ChatGPT Enterprise use among South Korean organizations has risen roughly 28-fold in a year.
Rabbit translation: The software is designing the future while the hardware industry quietly builds it a bigger brain.
4. Quantum Took a Rather Pretty Detour Through a Diamond
Fujitsu announced a working prototype quantum computer using diamond-spin qubits integrated with photonic circuits.
It is still research, not a quantum laptop for the kitchen table, but the modular architecture is aimed directly at the stubborn problem of scaling quantum machines.
Wonderland translation: Apparently silicon wasn’t sufficiently Wonderland.
We are now putting quantum information into diamonds and sending it around with light.
5. And Then Came Perhaps the Week’s Strangest Reversal
On September 9, OpenAI publicly called for mandatory national AI-safety requirements, independent assessments, protections for young people and safeguards against biological misuse.
The companies that spent years asking governments not to slow innovation are increasingly helping design the brakes.
This Week’s Rabbit Hole
There is a thread connecting all five stories.
Finance needs auditability.
Powerful models need boundaries.
Chips determine where intelligence can live.
Quantum changes what computation may become.
Regulation decides who carries responsibility.
We have spent an extraordinary amount of time asking: How intelligent will AI become?
The more consequential question is quietly replacing it: What kind of world are we building around that intelligence?
Because intelligence without architecture is merely capability.
And capability without judgment…
